From employee to full-time entrepreneur
The journey of Ryanne started ten years ago when she began photographing her own horse. What began as a hobby quickly turned into something more. After attending a workshop, she started receiving more and more inquiries, and her business began to flourish. Within two years, she traded her steady job for full-time entrepreneurship. “During the pandemic, I finally took the leap,” she says. “I quit my job and went all in on my business.”
Ryanne noticed that, alongside her photography, she was getting a lot of questions from other photographers about running a business. Through her online academy and coaching programs, she has now helped over 500 photographers build a strong foundation for their own business. “It all starts with creating a solid offer, defining your ideal client, and making it profitable,” she explains.
Where Ryanne once focused solely on equine photography, She has now made the switch to also creating content for a broader range of clients, especially businesses in need of professional photos and videos. 'What matters most to me is that the content I create actually helps attract new clients,' she says."
A brave decision
Quitting her job to focus fully on her business was a scary but necessary step. Ryanne saw that her work as a photographer didn’t just fuel her passion, it had real potential to make an impact. Becoming a full-time entrepreneur gave her the freedom to grow her business on her own terms. “I honestly never expected it to go so well. I just loved taking photos, and now I get to help others take that same leap.”
Overcoming challenges
Despite her success, the road wasn’t always easy. Ryanne struggled with people-pleasing tendencies and found it difficult to set her prices. “I often charged way too little for my work, until I realized how much value I was actually delivering.”
That mindset shift allowed her to raise her prices, attract a new audience, and start investing in her own business skills. “It felt super uncomfortable at first,” she admits. “But now, I sometimes work on projects worth over €10,000. These larger assignments can take weeks or even months.”
From photographer to mentor
All those questions from other photographers sparked her second passion: helping others grow. Ryanne developed two coaching programs; one specifically for equine photographers, and one for photographers in general.
“The core principles are actually the same for every photographer,” she says. “When you know what you're offering, who you're serving, and how to make it profitable, you can build something incredibly successful.”
Ryanne looks back with pride on the many milestones in her career. Her online academy has become a major part of her business, along with the coaching programs where she shares her knowledge. She also wrote a book about equine photography and has hosted photography trips abroad.
Embracing new opportunities
Although she started out in equine photography, Ryanne now also focuses on creating content for businesses. “What I love most is working with companies I’d personally be a customer of. That way, I immediately spot the opportunities to help them attract more clients.”
Her work is often a blend of photography and videography, always with the goal of creating content that drives real results. It has taken her all over the world. Last November she documented a retreat in Bali, and soon she’s flying to the U.S. to film an online academy.
Most of her clients find her via social media. She shows up daily on Instagram Stories, records podcast episodes, and invests a lot of time into her online visibility. On top of that, many clients come through word of mouth from happy customers.
Inspiration and growth
Ryanne continues to invest in her own growth. “I always work with coaches who are a few steps ahead of me, people who’ve already reached the place I want to go.”
Next month, she’s off to a three-day Mastermind in New York, and in June, she’s attending an event hosted by Mel Robbins in London. “I’ve been doing this from the start. It’s nerve-wracking sometimes, but you learn so much. I’d recommend it to anyone.”
How Shootstack helps Ryanne deliver her photos
As a busy entrepreneur, Ryanne knows how essential a streamlined workflow is. She wants to deliver a fast, smooth, and professional experience without any hassle. That’s why she starts selecting and delivering her images right after every shoot. “As soon as I get home, I upload all the photos. I make my selection and upload it into Shootstack. I pick a nice cover image, choose a layout I like, and send it off to the client.”
She often adds a short explanation on how to mark favorites, but it’s rarely needed. “Clients never have issues with it, Shootstack is super user-friendly!”
For Ryanne, Shootstack isn’t just about efficiency, it also helps her deliver a truly elevated experience. “My workflow has gotten so much faster thanks to Shootstack. I want my clients to feel like they’re getting something special, and Shootstack fits that perfectly,” she says.
Dreams for the future
Looking ahead, Ryanne’s main goal is simple: to keep the momentum going. “I hope to keep meeting inspiring people and traveling the world for beautiful shoots,” she says.
For anyone just starting out as a photographer, she has one key piece of advice: grow as an entrepreneur too. “You can earn so much doing what you love most: photography. You’re giving people something priceless, a memory, or content that helps them make money. You’re not ‘just a photographer’, you have the power to make people genuinely happy.”
Her tip? Learn from entrepreneurs who’ve already achieved what you’re aiming for. “It will speed up your journey so much. There’s always room for ambitious photographers who want to make this their career.”
One final message for photographers
Ryanne’s last message to fellow photographers is powerful: “Keep believing in yourself. Create work that no one else can, show up authentically, and know your worth. Don’t stay stuck in the hobbyist space, take that next step and treat yourself and your business seriously.”
“There will always be space for ambitious photographers. And content will continue to be incredibly important — now and in the future.”
